Ethiopia has successfully communicated its fair and legitimate demand for access to a seaport to the international community, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos (PhD).
Members of the house of peoples representatives raised questions regarding the role of Ethiopian embassies abroad in explaining the issue to the global community, to which the Minister responded that Ethiopia’s position has been clearly and effectively conveyed.
Gedion Timothewos emphasized that the international community now understands Ethiopia’s demand for sea access as both legitimate and just.
The minister noted that discussions have entered a new phase, shifting focus from awareness to how the issue can be practically addressed and resolved.
The Minister further stressed that access to the sea is not merely a policy priority of the current government, but a long-standing, generational national question central to Ethiopia’s future development and prosperity.
Concluding his remarks, Gedion Timothewos underscored the importance of national unity, calling on all Ethiopians to stand together beyond differences in pursuit of the country’s shared and vital national interest.
