According to information released by the National Election Board of Ethiopia, a total of 50.5 million voters have registered to participate in the 7th General Election scheduled for June 1, 2026.

The data indicate that this year’s election is historic and significantly different from previous elections for several reasons.

One of the major factors behind the sharp increase in voter registration is the introduction of the digital registration system launched this year.

Through the Mirchaye mobile application, citizens have been able to register easily from anywhere without the need to visit polling stations physically.

The new system has created a major opportunity for broader participation, particularly among young people and busy members of society, enabling them to engage more actively in the electoral process.

In addition, the registration system is integrated with the national identification system, Faida. This integration allows voter identities to be verified within seconds while simplifying document authentication and eliminating the need for repeated registration processes.

According to data from the National Election Board of Ethiopia, the accessibility of technology, along with a simple and fast registration process, has enabled citizens to exercise their democratic rights more conveniently, contributing to the dramatic rise in voter registration.
