Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration Adanech Abiebie announced that Addis Ababa has successfully concluded its six-month performance review evaluating government and party activities for the 2018 fiscal year.
The review, conducted over several days under the theme “Through Commitment, Elevating Addis Ababa to Greater Success,” assessed the performance of government and party structures across all levels of the city administration.
According to Mayor Adanech, the evaluation revealed encouraging achievements toward transforming Addis Ababa into a clean, green, beautiful, modern, and livable city.
Among the key infrastructure accomplishments, the Mayor noted that 134 kilometers of new roads have been constructed, while over 573 kilometers of existing roads have undergone maintenance and rehabilitation during the past six months.

Significant progress has also been made in the water and sanitation sector.
The modernization of the city’s sewerage system is underway, with the construction of eight wastewater treatment plants progressing rapidly to protect Addis Ababa from environmental pollution.
In the social sector, 274 projects in education, health, and other public services have been completed and are now operational.
Mayor Adanech further highlighted that corridor development and riverside projects are reshaping the city, contributing not only to Addis Ababa’s renewal but also to enhancing the country’s overall image.
Additionally, 12,000 residential and commercial housing units have been constructed and handed over to beneficiaries.

During the same period, Addis Ababa hosted over 150 national and international conferences, strengthening its position as a regional diplomatic and conference hub.
The city administration has created permanent job opportunities for more than 195,000 citizens, along with temporary employment for many others.
The Mayor also reported a 94 percent public satisfaction rate achieved through the city’s “Mesob” service delivery system.
Volunteer participation has expanded significantly, with development partners and city residents contributing services valued at approximately 13 billion birr, reflecting strong public engagement and partnership.
Looking ahead to the next six months, Mayor Adanech emphasized that the review has provided a vital platform to reinforce leadership performance, strengthen institutional capacity, and intensify efforts to combat corruption and maladministration through modern systems and active public participation.
