Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has emphasized the importance of making advance preparations for the upcoming rainy season.

In a message shared on her official social media platform, Mayor Adanech announced that the city administration officially launched flood prevention and disaster preparedness campaign today in Akaki Qality Sub-City, one of the area’s most vulnerable to flooding .

According to the mayor, Akaki Qality’s natural geographical location makes it the lowest-lying part of Addis Ababa, leaving it particularly susceptible to recurrent flooding over the years.

She noted that, by prioritizing this area, the city administration has intensified efforts to construct various flood-control structures and clean sewage and drainage lines across the city to ensure that rivers can flow through their natural channels.

Mayor Adanech also called on residents to actively participate in the flood prevention and disaster preparedness initiatives being undertaken by the city administration.
