Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie, in a message she shared on her official social media platform this morning marking the observance of Pagume 4, 2018 E.C., designated as Diversity Day, stated that the city shared meals with residents across all districts, sub-cities and at the city center to strengthen social cohesion by putting indigenous values into practice and fostering a culture of togetherness, mutual support and people-centered action.
She noted that since the reform, the city has continued its practice of sharing meals with those without caregivers or support, people vulnerable to social challenges, the elderly, people with disabilities and low-income workers, among others, as part of its longstanding efforts to promote mutual assistance and encourage those who have more to share with those who have less.
“Today, as we have done throughout the rainy season and during holidays, we have shared not only meals but also our love, togetherness and respect with the residents of our city, using the New Year as an opportunity to extend our warm wishes and say, ‘Happy New Year,’” Mayor Adanech said.
She expressed her wish for the New Year to be a year of love and peace, and one in which people work diligently to bring about positive change.
The Mayor also expressed her gratitude to businesspeople, associations and individuals who contributed to the citywide meal-sharing initiative.
