Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie has announced that the Ethiopian capital will receive the largest share of the 1.5 million housing units planned nationwide over the coming years, a program unveiled by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD).
The mayor made the remarks while responding to questions and providing clarifications to members of the city council.

Mayor Adanech stated that expanding housing supply in the capital will remain one of the city’s key priorities in the years ahead.
She also noted that the city will continue delivering housing units to long-registered condominium savers. However, she explained that it has become increasingly difficult to hand over newly constructed homes at the prices under which beneficiaries originally enrolled, given the rise in construction costs.
For this reason, the mayor emphasized that housing savers will need to increase the amount of their savings.
