Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie marked the Ethiopian New Year by extending messages of love, solidarity, and unity to residents, while reaffirming the city administration’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.
On September 9, during Ethiopia’s Harmony Day celebrations, Mayor Adanech shared a meal with elderly people, persons with disabilities, and other socially disadvantaged residents. The gathering highlighted the importance of compassion, mutual support, and respect for indigenous values.
Addressing the participants, the Mayor called on citizens to strengthen social bonds, promote mutual assistance, and prioritize people-centered initiatives.
In her Ethiopian New Year message on September 10, Mayor Adanech congratulated the residents of Addis Ababa and all Ethiopians, describing the New Year as more than a change of calendar—a bridge to the next stage of national progress.
Reflecting on the country’s achievements and lessons learned, she urged citizens to reject divisive rhetoric, embrace unity and brotherhood, and work together toward building a strong and prosperous Ethiopia.
On September 11, the Mayor continued the New Year celebrations by sharing a festive meal with residents at 30 community feeding centers across the city.
She wished citizens a peaceful, healthy, and prosperous year, expressing hope that the New Year would inspire greater unity, mutual support, and hard work, paving the way for lasting peace, happiness, and success.
The celebrations underscored the Addis Ababa City Administration’s commitment to fostering social solidarity, strengthening community ties, and ensuring that the spirit of the Ethiopian New Year reaches residents from all walks of life.
