Ethiopia, Argentina Strengthen Cooperation in the Nuclear Sector

The Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission (ENEC) and Argentina have strengthened their bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, reaffirming their shared commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

The Ambassador of Argentina to Ethiopia, Ignacio Roccatagliata, paid a visit to the newly established office of the Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission (ENEC), marking an important step in enhancing institutional collaboration between the two sides.

During the visit, the Ambassador held comprehensive bilateral discussions with Commissioner Sandokan Debebe on priority areas of cooperation aimed at advancing Ethiopia’s nuclear program development.

The high-level meeting, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, focused on fostering strategic partnership with Argentina, a country with decades of extensive experience in the peaceful application of nuclear technology. In the course of the discussions, Commissioner Sandokan Debebe commended Argentina’s advanced expertise in nuclear power generation, research reactor design, and modern reactor technologies, including innovative projects such as CAREM.

The commissioner further expressed Ethiopia’s strong interest in leveraging Argentina’s international experience to accelerate the development of its national nuclear program.

Both parties agreed to prioritize collaboration in key areas, including technology application, human resource development, and the strengthening of regulatory and legal frameworks to ensure the peaceful and responsible use of nuclear energy.

The agreement underscores Ethiopia’s firm commitment to building a safe, secure, and sustainable nuclear program through robust international partnerships and knowledge exchange.
