Ethiopia, Malawi Explore Stronger AI Cooperation

A high-level delegation of government officials from the Republic of Malawi has visited the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute to explore the country’s progress in artificial intelligence and discuss opportunities for future collaboration.

During the visit, Shambel Yilma (PhD), Head of the Director General’s Office and Technology Advisor at the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, briefed the delegation on the institute’s ongoing initiatives and achievements across various sectors.

He highlighted that the institute is implementing a wide range of AI-driven projects designed to support Ethiopia’s national development priorities and accelerate innovation across key sectors.

The visit also featured discussions on potential areas of cooperation between Ethiopia and Malawi in artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and knowledge sharing.

Speaking after the visit, the head of the Malawian delegation, Foster Harawa, praised the institute’s achievements, describing it as a model that other African countries could learn from.

He said the institute’s innovative projects demonstrate the transformative potential of artificial intelligence for Africa’s development and noted that the visit provided the delegation with valuable firsthand insight into Ethiopia’s growing AI ecosystem.

Harawa also expressed appreciation for the institute’s work, emphasizing that its experience could serve as a strong foundation for strengthening future technological cooperation between Ethiopia and Malawi, according to Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.
