The Office of the Mayor, in a statement shared this morning on its official social media platforms, announced that the delegation led by Her Excellency Mayor Adanech Abiebie visited the Caspian Sea Integrated Urban Development Project, widely known as the “Sea Breeze Project,” in Azerbaijan.

The statement noted that Azerbaijan is not only redeveloping its existing cities, but is also transforming previously underutilized areas and old villages through large-scale urban renewal initiatives. As part of the Sea Breeze Project, 50,000 houses, hotels, and related developments are planned to be completed over the next 16 years. The project also demonstrates a strong partnership between the government and the private sector in advancing urban development.

The statement further highlighted that Addis Ababa is undertaking similar large-scale development efforts. The city is working intensively to construct 100,000 housing units and related infrastructure annually, while also renewing older and underserved neighborhoods.

By utilizing previously underused areas such as the Chaka Project, Gelan-Gura, Muhammadiya Village, and Addis Tomorrow, among others, we are continuing our journey to build a city of residence that is conducive to development and quality living. These initiatives aim to alleviate the housing shortage while also transforming existing areas into attractive tourism destinations.

“With great determination and continuous development excellence, we will work tirelessly to make Addis Ababa truly live up to its name and strengthen its position as a globally competitive city,” the statement emphasized.
