The Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission (ENEC) continues to advance the implementation of Ethiopia’s Peaceful Nuclear Technology Development Program, building on strong institutional foundations and strategic partnerships.
During the discussion, Belete Mola(PhD), Minister of Innovation and Technology, underscored the importance of continued cooperation to ensure the effective implementation of peaceful nuclear technology initiatives.
The Minister recognized the progress made by ENEC since its establishment and expressed MiNT’s readiness to provide continued support during the transition period.

ENEC Commissioner, Sandokan Debebe, stated that significant progress has been achieved within a short period of time in establishing and structuring the new Commission. The commissioner acknowledged the work previously carried out by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MiNT) and emphasized that ENEC is now consolidating and operationalizing these efforts in line with its national mandate.
The Commissioner highlighted key milestones achieved to date, including the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) between ENEC and Rosatom, the official launch of Ethiopia’s nuclear power programme in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the successful organization of two consecutive high-level nuclear events within one week, which received strong appreciation from senior government officials and the IAEA delegation.

The commissioner reaffirmed ENEC’s commitment to implementing the peaceful nuclear technology development agenda, noting that the program has received strong policy attention from the Government of Ethiopia and is expected to contribute to long-term national development through science, technology, and innovation.
The Commissioner and the Minister also agreed to establish a joint working group to ensure a smooth and orderly transition of handover activities from MiNT to ENEC. The discussion further covered priority areas such as legal and regulatory frameworks, human resource development, and capacity building, aimed at creating a sustainable and enabling environment as to Ethiopian Nuclear Energy reported it.
