Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has handed over four G+4 manufacturing and retail buildings to beneficiaries of the Urban Safety Net Program in Addis Ababa. The handover ceremony took place this morning in the sub-cities of Addis Ketema, Akaki Kalitiy, Yeka, and Kirkos.

In a message shared on her official social media platform, Mayor Adanech stated that one of the city administration’s ongoing “Zero Poverty” initiatives is aimed at eliminating dependency and begging among city residents.

The mayor noted that the program has directly benefited 976 operators who have been organized into 292 enterprises.

The Mayor emphasized that the city administration is intensifying its efforts in job creation, expanding access to manufacturing and market spaces, and transforming the lives of citizens living in extreme poverty. These initiatives, she said, are designed to lift residents out of poverty in a sustainable manner.

Mayor further highlighted that over the past years of reform, the city administration has successfully transitioned more than 520,000 Urban Safety Net Program beneficiaries from dependency to productivity by creating employment opportunities across various sectors.

Finally, Mayor Adanech encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the skills they have gained through training in their daily work, enhance their productivity, and serve as role models so that others may learn from and follow in their footsteps.
