In a message shared on her official social media page, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that Mrs. Hada Al-Mahdi, a representative of a contending political party from the Benishangul-Gumuz Region, delivered her baby while carrying out the responsibility entrusted to her with what the Mayor described as “great patriotism and a strong sense of national commitment.”
To support Mrs. Hada during this special moment, the Addis Ababa City Administration arranged comfortable accommodation for her at the Addis International Convention Center and provided all the essential supplies needed for both the mother and her newborn.
“We also visited her to extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes,” the Mayor said.

In a symbolic tribute to the occasion, Mrs. Hada named her son “Commission,” commemorating his birth during Ethiopia’s historic National Dialogue process.
According to the Mayor, Mrs. Hada expressed her determination to resume her role in the conference after taking a few days to recover, reaffirming her commitment to contributing to the national dialogue.
Mayor Adanech also revealed that two delegates gave birth while attending the conference. To ensure they can continue participating without difficulty, the city administration has arranged accommodations close to the conference venue and pledged to provide all necessary support until they complete the dialogue process and safely return to their respective homes.
Concluding her message, the Mayor extended her warm wishes to the newborn, saying, “May baby Commission grow up healthy, strong, and prosperous.”
