A team of senior officials from the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) visited the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad, and held a productive meeting with Oumer Hussein Oba(PhD), Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan.
During the discussion, the Ambassador briefed the delegation on the opening of Ethiopia’s banking sector to foreign investors under the second phase of the government’s Homegrown Economic Reforms (HGER), inviting the bank to tap into this emerging market.
He highlighted the comparative advantages for the Pakistani investors, including access to clean energy, “plug-and-play” facilities in special economic zones, robust infrastructure, and strategic connectivity within the region and beyond.
The HBL delegation shared their extensive experience in development finance, particularly regarding local initiatives supporting the Agricultural sector.
The delegates briefed the Ambassador on comprehensive support being provided to small-scale farmers, ranging from specialized lending services to the provision of essential machinery and pesticides.
Both sides agreed on the vital importance of knowledge sharing and discussed concrete avenues for cooperation, including the organization of Business-to-Business (B2B) forums, the establishment of institutional linkages, and the exchange of professional delegations in future as to Ethiopia Embassy Islamabad reported it.
