Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called on the people of Tigray, armed youth, and political and military leaders to fully return to peace.

In an interview conducted in the Tigrinya language, Prime Minister Abiy said Tigrayans living both in Ethiopia and abroad should collectively embrace peace.

He called for mothers to reunite with their children and for the region’s battered economy and social development, which have suffered greatly, to recover.

The Prime Minister also urged the people to preserve their unity and institutions and work in cooperation with security forces until a regular administration is established through elections.

He called on armed youth to surrender their weapons peacefully and join the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process. He also urged political and military leaders to surrender peacefully, stressing that the conflict had gone on long enough and that peace was the better option.

Prime Minister Abiy said anyone who had committed a crime would be held accountable under the law. He encouraged those who had not committed crimes to live peacefully in their country, advising Tigrayans living abroad against spending their later years in exile while leaving their assets behind.

The Prime Minister urged the people of Tigray to redirect their attention toward peace, electing their leaders, irrigation and agricultural development, mining, industry, and urban corridor development.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working diligently alongside the people of Tigray to support peace and reconstruction.
