During his visit to Dire Dawa, Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed (PhD) reviewed development activities aimed at enhancing the city’s trade, industry, and tourism potential.
The Prime Minister explained that Dire Dawa is an important industrial center with more than 400 factories.
The Prime Minister noted that extensive efforts are underway to facilitate import and export trade by integrating existing industrial parks with a free trade zone.
Prime Minister added that initiatives in the textile, construction materials, and electronics sectors will continue to be strengthened.
According to the Prime Minister, expanding fuel and construction materials testing stations will also help create a more favorable environment for trade and investment.

Highlighting the city’s natural setting, the Prime Minister stated that the mountains surrounding Dire Dawa significantly contribute to the city’s beauty and tourism appeal.
Abiy emphasized that terrace development and tree planting in mountainous areas are essential measures to prevent flooding and protect the environment.
In this regard, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of avoiding unplanned construction and promoting integrated urban development guided by proper design and knowledge so that a well-planned city can be passed on to future generations.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister announced that the historic Dire Dawa Palace, renovated to the highest standards as part of the “Dine for the Nation” projects, is now ready to host tourists and accommodate various social events.
The Prime Minister noted that the palace has been handed over to the private sector and will host weddings, meetings, and various social events.
Finally, the Prime Minister called on the city’s leaders and residents to continue their efforts to make Dire Dawa more attractive for tourism and investment.
