Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie has called on other countries to draw lessons from Ethiopia’s experience in preventing diseases and expanding health institutions.

The 76th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa is currently underway in Addis Ababa.

Speaking at the gathering, President Taye said Ethiopia has built a reliable capacity to prevent diseases at an early stage and respond swiftly to unexpected outbreaks. He also noted that the country has been working extensively to expand, upgrade, and modernize health institutions across the country.

He emphasized that cooperation among African countries and the development of a self-reliant health system will play a crucial role in modernizing Africa’s healthcare system and ensuring access to health services.

The President further stated that Ethiopia is working intensively to become a destination for health tourism, safeguard the health and well-being of its citizens, modernize pharmaceutical supply and production, improve service delivery systems, and increase the number of qualified health professionals.

He also highlighted Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, implemented over the past years to maintain ecological balance, as well as efforts to improve and modernize cities in order to enhance citizens’ quality of life. In this regard, he cited Addis Ababa as an example.

Finally, President Taye noted that the gathering provides a significant opportunity for policymakers, health-sector professionals, and governments to clearly identify gaps in the health sector and design a better health system for the future.
