In an interview with the Ethiopian News Agency Tigrigna Language Department, Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed(PhD) said the TPLF has failed to embrace the nationwide changes undertaken in the country following the reform.
The Prime Minister stated that the group is guided by a backward ideology that cannot be translated into action and that its refusal to accept the change has led it to make decisions that endanger not only the public but also its own survival.
Abiy noted that the actions taken by the group, do not reflect the conduct of a healthy political party. The Prime minister criticized the TPLF for lacking the willingness and intent to introduce new ideas or embark on a genuine path of change.
The Prime Minister further observed that the world has undergone significant change over the past two to three decades. However, he said, the TPLF has remained entrenched in what he described as a “19th-century mindset.”
Abiy added that by labeling reform-oriented forces, those advocating working together on a forward-looking ideology aimed at ensuring sustainable benefit of the public and national prosperity, as adversaries, the group has exposed citizens to serious harm.
According to Abiy, the TPLF has shown a tendency toward conflict rather than cooperating with reformist forces.
Addressing the impact of past conflicts, the Prime Minister stated the atrocities and repeated wars waged by the group, saying these actions have inflicted sufferings on the people of Tigray.
The Prime Minister also accused the TPLF of fostering division and suspicion among citizens during its years in power, creating distrust toward the “New Ethiopia.” Abiy asserted that the group has yet to abandon what he described as its long-held reliance on armed struggle and remains entrenched in outdated political thinking.
