AMN PLUS-March 6/2026
In a message shared on her official social media page, Adanech Abiebie, Mayor of Addis Ababa, announced the completion of a new corridor development project linking Urael – Bole Medhanealem – Bole VIP Terminal.
The mayor stated that the newly completed corridor has added significant beauty to the city while delivering substantial public benefits through various infrastructure and urban improvement works.
The Mayor recalled that the area previously suffered from substandard asphalt roads, limited sidewalks, lack of bicycle lanes, and serious parking shortages. In addition, there were no sports fields or children’s playgrounds, while many buildings were surrounded by waste, lacked renovation, and were obscured by unnecessary and poorly constructed structures.

However, through the corridor development project, the area has now been transformed into an attractive and modern urban space. The project includes the following major developments:
5.3 km asphalt road: A 60-meter-wide road with four lanes on each side
Transport terminal: Modern taxi and bus terminals
Pedestrian and cycle paths: 10.5 km of pedestrian walkways (5–10 meters wide) and 4 km of dedicated cycling lanes
Parking facilities: Built through a public–private partnership with capacity for 2,000 vehicles (900 outdoor and 1,100 indoor spaces)
Electric charging stations: Facilities covering 3,442.38 square meters
Transport stops: 15 taxi and bus stops

Commercial and recreational areas: Eight cafes with public toilets, plazas, and shops that create opportunities for small businesses
Green development: Landscaped green spaces featuring five fountains
Sports facilities: Football and basketball fields, as well as children’s playgrounds
Building renovation: More than 200 buildings renovated with high quality and efficiency
Mayor Adanech stated that the extensive works were completed in less than three months and are now open for public service.
She noted that the project will not only enhance the pride and stature of the city but also help elevate the country’s overall image. Beyond creating employment opportunities for many citizens, the project has also significantly stimulated business activities in the area, she said, expressing confidence that even greater results will be achieved in the future.
The mayor also extended her gratitude to leaders, workers, and professionals who worked tirelessly day and night under a 24/7 work culture, as well as to investors, traders, homeowners, and building owners for their strong cooperation and encouragement throughout the project.
