Briefing the Parliament, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that Ethiopia and the Red Sea are inseparable, underscoring the country’s legitimate interest in access to the vital maritime corridor.
During the Tenth Regular Session of the Sixth House of People’s Representatives meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that Ethiopia’s pursuit of sea access is guided by win-win approach, rooted in cooperation and mutual benefit with neighboring countries.
The Prime Minister stressed that denying Ethiopia access to the Red Sea is irrational and unjustifiable, noting that Ethiopia seeks to utilize shared regional resources peacefully and collaboratively with all its neighbors.

The Prime Minister further explained that Ethiopia has engaged the international community to explore lawful and cooperative avenues for securing access to seaports through the Red Sea corridor.
According to the Prime Minister, the international community has acknowledged the legitimacy and rationality of Ethiopia’s quest for sea access.
Abiy concluded by affirming that ensuring Ethiopia’s access to the Red Sea corridor is not only reasonable but essential, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue and regional cooperation.
