The Head of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Election Observer Mission, Dr. Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe, stated that the observer team has not identified any irregularities in the electoral process thus far.
Speaking on the mission’s observations, Dr. Wandira-Kazibwe noted that consultations held with civil society organizations, women’s groups, and youth associations indicate that Ethiopia’s electoral culture is demonstrating significant progress over time.
She further emphasized that the active participation of women, youth, elderly citizens, and persons with disabilities in the electoral process reflects a high level of public engagement and inclusiveness.
According to the mission, Ethiopia is ahead of many African countries in the application of modern technology in the electoral process. The use of technology, she said, is facilitating faster access to information and enabling timely responses to any challenges that may arise.
The IGAD observer team, which has deployed monitors across various parts of the country, also reported that the election is being conducted peacefully, orderly, and with strong public participation based on observations made so far.
Concluding her remarks, Dr. Wandira-Kazibwe commended the active involvement of Ethiopian youth in technology-driven electoral and monitoring processes, noting that this generation is poised to play a vital role in advancing Africa’s democratic development.
