Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos (PhD), has called for intensified efforts to accelerate Africa’s economic freedom, stressing that it must remain the African Union’s foremost priority.
Addressing the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, currently underway in Addis Ababa, the Minister emphasized that achieving meaningful economic freedom requires sustained peace and deeper political cooperation among member states.
Reaffirming Ethiopia’s steadfast commitment to continental integration, Gedion called for expedited implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), stressing that economic integration is central to Africa’s transformation.
Gedion further highlighted Ethiopia’s growing engagement with neighboring countries in the energy and infrastructure sectors, noting that such cooperation holds immense potential to accelerate Africa’s overall economic growth.
