Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has called for stronger cooperation between Ethiopia and Kenya, emphasizing that the two neighboring countries should build a shared future founded on their intertwined histories, mutual interests, and aspirations for prosperity.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing Kenya’s national Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret, where he paid tribute to the country’s heroes who fought for independence and made immense sacrifices to defend its sovereignty.

In a message shared on his social media platforms, Prime Minister Abiy expressed his profound respect for Kenya’s national heroes, recognizing their courage, patriotism, and enduring contributions to the country’s freedom.

He drew parallels between Kenya’s legacy of heroism and sacrifice and Ethiopia’s historic victory at the Battle of Adwa, highlighting how Ethiopians from across the country united to defend their independence and sovereignty.

The Prime Minister noted that these shared historical experiences offer an enduring lesson: freedom is never simply given but secured through courage, unity, and sacrifice.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the historical bonds between Ethiopia and Kenya should serve as a foundation for a common future, urging both countries to deepen their partnership in pursuit of shared development and prosperity.

Guided by the spirit of Medemer (synergy), Prime Minister Abiy stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation to expand opportunities for citizens and unlock the full potential of the two countries’ complementary strengths.

He particularly highlighted clean energy, road connectivity, telecommunications, and trade as strategic areas in which existing cooperation should be further strengthened. Enhanced collaboration in these sectors, he indicated, would help reinforce economic ties, improve regional connectivity, facilitate trade, and create new opportunities for sustainable growth and development.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored the importance of translating the historical solidarity between Ethiopia and Kenya into a forward-looking partnership that benefits their peoples and contributes to broader regional integration.

Concluding his message, Prime Minister Abiy extended his highest respect to all the heroes honored on Mashujaa Day, paying tribute to their sacrifices and their lasting contributions to Kenya’s independence and sovereignty.
