Addressing the 130th Adwa Victory Memorial day, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force stated that the Adwa Victory represents a historical moment in which generational pride and the defeat of betrayal were clearly demonstrated.
In his message during the celebration, Field Marshal Birhanu emphasized that the Adwa Victory, a symbol of Ethiopia’s struggle for freedom, was a great source of moral strength and inspiration for the generation of that time.
Field Marshal noted that Ethiopia defeated foreign invaders in its history by standing united, and called on today’s generation to repeat that unity in order to safeguard national sovereignty.
Chief of Staff of Ethiopian defense also highlighted the sacrifices made for the nation’s independence by religious leaders such as Abune Petros and even unarmed citizens, stating that their legacy serves as a model for the current generation.
Recalling that betrayal has historically been condemned by society, the field Marshal warned that today as well, individuals working to undermine the country on behalf of external enemies must be vigilantly resisted.
Field Marshal further stated that the Ethiopian National Defense Force guided by the spirit of the heroes of Adwa, are actively thwarting the ambitions of those who seek to dismantle the nation.
Speaking on overcoming Ethiopia’s current challenges, the Field Marshal called for unwavering unity in the spirit of Adwa, emphasizing the responsibility to safeguard the nation’s honor and proudly pass its enduring legacy to the next generation.
