Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has presented the nominations of members of the Medemer Government’s Cabinet to the House of Peoples’ Representatives, and the nominations were unanimously approved.
Under the new Cabinet structure, nine of the 22 ministers are women. This demonstrates the high importance Ethiopia attaches to equal participation and representation of women and serves as an example for other countries.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister said that such a high representation of women ministers could serve as a model not only for African countries but also for developed countries.

He explained that, in assigning the positions, the women’s capacity to execute, coordinate, and lead was given primary consideration, rather than their gender alone.
In addition to women’s participation, the Prime Minister said the Cabinet composition was designed to reflect ethnic, religious, and regional diversity. He said this is part of the effort to build a country where all sections of society can serve their country equally.
The Prime Minister also said women leaders should demonstrate their effectiveness in the positions entrusted to them and competently discharge the responsibilities assigned to them.
He further urged the leaders to adopt similarly inclusive practices within their respective institutions.
