In a message shared on her official social media page, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie stated that she has reviewed the construction progress of major road projects that are expected to significantly benefit residents and enhance the city’s transportation network.
According to the mayor, the projects reviewed cover a total of 8.9 kilometers and include the Autobus Tera-Mesalemiya-18 Mazoria road project and the Ayer Tena-Kara Wollete asphalt road construction project.
The Autobus Tera-Mesalemiya-18 Mazoria project is a newly constructed 3.3-kilometer asphalt road featuring six traffic lanes in total, three on each side.
The project also incorporates wide pedestrian walkways and underground infrastructure installations for telecommunications, electricity, water supply, and sewerage systems.

The project further involves the expansion and upgrading of the existing ring road along the Defense Forces route, improving connectivity and easing traffic flow in the area.
Another project inspected by the mayor was the Ayer Tena – Kara Wollete asphalt road, which stretches 5.6 kilometers. This road will connect the city with the route leading to Jimma and Hossana, significantly enhancing travel efficiency and accessibility.
The mayor noted that these projects had previously drawn public concern due to delays in their scheduled completion. However, she explained that the primary challenge, right-of-way clearance issues, has now been resolved, and concerted efforts are underway to finalize the projects within a short period.
She emphasized that close monitoring and follow-up will continue to ensure the timely completion and operationalization of the projects.
The mayor also revealed that a total of 140 road projects are currently under construction across Addis Ababa. Of these, 104 projects are being constructed directly by the Addis Ababa Roads Authority, while the remaining projects are being carried out by private contractors.
