Ethiopia Finalizes Preparations to Host 16th Annual African Risk Capacity Conference

Ethiopia is currently finalizing preparations to host the 16th Annual Conference of the African Risk Capacity, which will take place in Addis Ababa from April 8 to April 10, 2026.

As part of these preparations, a media briefing session was conducted today, with the participation of major mainstream media representatives.

During the briefing, the State Minister of the Government Communication Service, Tesfahun Gobezay, stated that beyond its contribution to conference tourism, the event will highlight Ethiopia’s leadership role in Africa’s green economy.

The state Minister emphasized that media coverage of the conference should focus on the importance of addressing the continent’s climate change challenges and their impacts through Africa’s own capacity and solutions.

During the technical session, EDRMC Executives provided detailed presentations on the structure, focus areas, achievements, and benefits of the African Risk Capacity, particularly for Ethiopia. EDRMC Executives also elaborated on the role of media in shaping national image, as well as the preparatory activities undertaken by the Commission and the discussions, events, and field visits planned as part of the conference.

Finally, the Commissioner of the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission, Ambassador Shiferaw Teklemariam(PhD), emphasized that media institutions play a crucial role in shaping public perception and building national image.

The commissioner also stressed that African countries must work collectively to provide African solutions to African challenges and to ensure humanitarian sovereignty.

Shiferaw further called on media institutions to actively engage and encourage conference participants to contribute meaningfully to these objectives as to Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management reported it.
