Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has arrived in Accra, Ghana, to participate in the African Union Emergency Health Summit, a high-level gathering aimed at strengthening the continent’s health systems and enhancing Africa’s collective preparedness for current and future public health challenges.
In a message shared on his official social media page, the Deputy Prime Minister described Accra as one of the birthplaces of the Pan-African movement and the home of the renowned Pan-African leader Kwame Nkrumah.
Temesgen noted the city’s historic significance as African leaders convene to advance a shared vision for a healthier and more resilient continent.
According to Temesgen, the summit will focus on reinforcing Africa’s healthcare systems while exploring strategic and coordinated approaches to preventing and combating both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The discussions will bring together heads of state, policymakers, health experts, and key stakeholders to develop practical solutions that promote sustainable health security across Africa.
Upon his arrival at Accra’s international airport, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh was warmly welcomed by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and senior government officials.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana for the warm hospitality and gracious reception accorded to him.
The summit is expected to strengthen regional cooperation and reaffirm the African Union’s commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare systems that can effectively respond to the continent’s evolving health needs.
