Reflecting on the comprehensive development activities and achievements recorded so far, Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie highlighted that the city has made remarkable progress in preserving its historical heritage, easing the cost-of-living burden on residents, and positioning itself as an international tourism hub.
The mayor stated that the city’s ongoing multifaceted efforts to transform Addis Ababa into a commercial, diplomatic, and tourism destination are delivering tangible results.

She further noted that Addis Ababa is rapidly advancing toward becoming an international conference and tourism center. As an example, she pointed out that more than 200 conferences were hosted in the city during the past nine months alone.
According to the mayor, this growth in conference tourism has generated billions of birr in revenue while stimulating broader economic activity across the hotel, trade, and transportation sectors.
Mayor Adanech also emphasized that major sporting events including Grand Prix races, boxing competitions, and international cycling tournaments are helping establish Addis Ababa as a growing sports destination.
She praised the enthusiasm and hospitality of the city’s residents, noting their strong support for sporting activities.
She added that these developments have significantly strengthened Ethiopia’s bid to host the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
On environmental sustainability, the mayor reported that the city has achieved notable progress over the past five years.
She stated that Addis Ababa’s green development coverage has expanded from 2.8 percent to 22 percent, with a target of reaching 30 percent next year.

Reflecting on the city’s bold urban transformation agenda, Mayor Adanech reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to accelerating corridor development projects and intensifying efforts to modernize infrastructure across the capital.
