GERD Emerges as Catalyst for Regional Economic Integration and Power Connectivity: CEO

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is strengthening regional economic integration and enhancing power connectivity by significantly augmenting electricity supply across the region.

Engineer Ashebir Balcha, CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power, stated that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is reinforcing regional power connectivity while more than doubling Ethiopia’s domestic power supply.

The CEO said that the GERD represents the second Adwa, demonstrating in action the resilience, unity, and unwavering commitment of all Ethiopians.

According to the Ethiopian News Agency, he said the construction of the dam is a landmark project through which Ethiopia has demonstrated to the world that it can achieve remarkable success through its own capabilities, while also opening a new chapter in the country’s history.

The CEO further stated that since the dam was inaugurated and became fully operational, it has more than doubled the country’s power-generation capacity. In addition, the project has significantly increased Ethiopia’s foreign-exchange earnings from the power sector.
