Ethiopia, China Hold Talks to Boost Investment Cooperation

Ethiopian Investment Commission Commissioner Zeleke Temesgen(PhD) held discussions with a delegation led by Zou Xiaodong, Chairman of the Counselors’ Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, on Ethiopia’s investment climate and ways to strengthen investment cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai, along with senior officials from both countries.

During the discussion, Zeleke Temesgen(PhD) stated that Ethiopia is implementing a number of reforms aimed at creating a favorable investment environment for foreign investors. He highlighted that broad investment opportunities are available for Chinese investors, particularly in the manufacturing, energy, agriculture, mining, technology, and tourism sectors.

The Commissioner noted that China remains one of Ethiopia’s major trade and investment partners, adding that Chinese engagement in industrial parks, infrastructure development, and the manufacturing sector has significantly contributed to Ethiopia’s economic growth.

On his part, Zou Xiaodong stated that Ethiopia is among the fastest-growing economies in Africa and emphasized China’s interest in further strengthening its long-standing friendship and economic cooperation with Ethiopia.

He also encouraged Chinese investors to expand their engagement in Ethiopia by taking advantage of the country’s growing investment opportunities across various sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to work closely to further enhance cooperation in trade and investment, technology transfer, industrial development, and capacity building, According to Ethiopian Investment Commission
