Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, this morning thanked the residents of the capital for their participation in the successful conduct of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election held on June 1, 2026.
In a message shared on her official social media platform, the mayor said the Ethiopian people had achieved the twin goals set for the election, describing the country as the true winner.

She expressed gratitude to Addis Ababa residents for helping ensure the election was conducted peacefully, democratically, freely, and fairly, and for giving the Prosperity Party a majority vote based on their confidence that its policies and strategies would safeguard Ethiopia’s national interests.
According to the mayor, strengthening national unity, ensuring lasting peace, and protecting the country’s national interests demonstrate Ethiopia’s resilience and capability.

Speaking on behalf of the Prosperity Party and the government, Adanech thanked city residents for what she described as their determination in the face of media campaigns and pressure from both within and outside the country.
She also commended voters for turning out early despite technological disruptions and patiently waiting in long queues until late at night, saying their commitment helped strengthen Ethiopia’s democracy, safeguard peace, and sustain the country’s development.

The mayor said the public’s vote for the Prosperity Party reflected trust that unresolved issues would be addressed, unfinished projects completed, and existing shortcomings overcome.
Describing the public’s confidence as a sacred trust, Adanech pledged that her administration would continue working with honesty, dedication, diligence, and commitment to make Addis Ababa a model city of prosperity
