Addis Ababa Attracts Over 1.3 Trillion Birr in Investment Through Public-Private Partnerships: Mayor

Addressing the Addis Ababa City Council’s 4th Regular Session of its 5th-Year Council Meeting, Addis Ababa Mayor Her Excellency Adanech Abiebie said the city administration has made significant strides over the past five years in promoting and expanding investment opportunities across Addis Ababa, creating a more attractive environment for investors and supporting the city’s economic growth.

According to the mayor, 22,190 new investment licenses have been issued during the period, while 1,632 investors have received expansion permits to scale up their businesses.

Overall, more than 2,000 investors have commenced operations, mobilizing over 54 billion birr in capital investment and creating broad employment opportunities for residents.

Mayor Adanech further stated that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Program was introduced to ensure that the city’s development projects are implemented in an effective, inclusive, and sustainable manner. Through partnerships between the government and the private sector across various development projects, the city has succeeded in attracting more than 1.3 trillion birr in investment capital.

She noted that the Public-Private Partnership Program has significantly accelerated private sector participation, enabling the city administration to redirect public resources toward other essential public services.

Beyond creating substantial employment opportunities, the initiative is also helping to deliver transformative development projects that enhance Addis Ababa’s standing and global competitiveness.
