Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced in a message shared on her official social media platform this morning that the city administration has begun its fiscal year 2026 end-of-year performance review, which will assess the achievements of the annual targets alongside the overall results of its five-year strategic plan.

“Today, we began conducting the year-end performance review of our city administration’s accomplishments for the 2026 fiscal year,” the mayor said.

According to Adanech, the three-day review session will evaluate the goals set for the fiscal year. As fiscal year 2026 also marks the final year of the city’s five-year strategic plan, the review will examine the administration’s performance over the entire five-year period.

She said the city administration had worked “faithfully, honestly, and tirelessly—24 hours a day, seven days a week” over the past five years to implement its strategic objectives, resulting in significant achievements.

The mayor said the administration had steered Addis Ababa away from what she described as “unproductive agendas” and transformed it into a center of development and peace. She also highlighted improvements in social justice; cleanliness, environmental sustainability, and the city’s appearance, saying these progresses have attracted international attention.

Despite these achievements, Adanech acknowledged that challenges remain. She said the review would examine differences in leadership effectiveness as well as the cost-of-living challenges facing residents.

While noting that the administration has recorded substantial progress, the mayor said much work remains to meet the public’s development aspirations and the city’s prosperity goals.

She said the review will focus on building on existing successes, identifying and addressing challenges, and achieving even greater results in the next fiscal year. The forum will also discuss the city’s priority areas for the coming period.
