Ethiopia, U.S. Discuss Opportunities to Deepen Economic Cooperation

The discussions focused on Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms, investment opportunities, and avenues for strengthening economic cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States.

During the meeting, the Minister provided an overview of the Government of Ethiopia’s macroeconomic and structural reform agenda, highlighting the significant progress achieved in recent years in creating a more conducive environment for private sector development and foreign direct investment.

He emphasized the Government’s commitment to sustaining reforms aimed at enhancing economic competitiveness, improving the business climate, and expanding opportunities for international investors.

Mark Mitchell commended the progress made under Ethiopia’s reform program and expressed appreciation for the Government’s efforts to improve the investment environment. Mr. Mitchell underscored the importance of deepening commercial and investment ties between Ethiopia and the United States and reaffirmed the U.S. Department of Commerce’s interest in supporting greater engagement between American companies and the Ethiopian market.

The two sides also exchanged views on opportunities to expand bilateral trade and investment relations, strengthen private sector partnerships, and promote increased business-to-business engagement. They further discussed the new airport development project and the interest of U.S. financing institutions in supporting the financing of this major initiative. Both parties emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to unlock new areas of economic collaboration and mutual benefit.
