A Statement Shared on the Official Social Media Page of the Office of the Mayor of Addis Ababa highlighted the inclusive development the city is witnessing. It states that Addis Ababa is becoming a more beautiful City while ensuring fair access to opportunities for its Citizens, a showcase of prosperity. Today, Addis Ababa is shedding its old image and embracing a new era marked by renewed hope, fresh opportunities, and a more attractive urban landscape.
Its streets are becoming greener, its buildings are being transformed with modern designs, and, above all, the city is placing strong emphasis on improving the lives of its residents by ensuring fair and equitable access to development.
The city’s people-centered development initiatives are designed with the most vulnerable members of society in mind, striving to ensure that children and adults, the poor and the wealthy alike, all benefit fairly from the city’s progress.
Among these initiatives is a flagship housing programme that provides dignified homes for vulnerable citizens and individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation. Many of these beneficiaries previously lived in makeshift shelters without basic sanitation facilities, enduring leaking roofs during the rainy season and facing severe hardships that affected both their livelihoods and their health. Through the Tesfa Birhan Feeding Centers, elderly citizens and socially disadvantaged national contributors receive one meal a day. Similarly, school children are provided with breakfast and lunch, while the city’s Early Childhood Development Programme supports children up to six years of age and parents with low incomes. These efforts are aimed at building a better city for future generations—one with a cleaner environment, improved living conditions, and greater hope for all.
Addis Ababa is not only becoming more beautiful; it is also transforming the lives of its citizens and emerging as a model city that reflects the country’s prosperity.
