Ethiopia Earns Nearly USD 5.6 Billion in Foreign Exchange from the Mining Sector

The Ministry of Mines has announced that Ethiopia earned approximately USD 5.6 billion in foreign exchange from the mining sector during the concluded fiscal year.

The Ministry is currently reviewing its performance for the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year and discussing its plans for the 2019 Ethiopian fiscal year.

Speaking at the review, Minister of Mines Habtamu Tegegne (Eng.) said the mining sector is one of the country’s five key pillars of the economy.

He noted that, as a result of the special attention given to the sector, its growth has steadily increased over the past years.

Accordingly, he stated that the mining sector generated nearly USD 5.6 billion in foreign exchange during the concluded fiscal year, the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) reported.
