Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebie attended the ongoing “Adwa Fight Night” competition, which brings together mixed martial arts and kickboxing on a single platform, and encouraged young people participating in the event at the historic Adwa Victory Memorial.
In her message, Mayor Adanech said the competition features a sport that is highly popular in developed countries but requires international-standard sports infrastructure, which had made it uncommon in Ethiopia until now.
She noted that the construction of diverse and modern sports facilities in Addis Ababa has made it possible to introduce and host new types of sporting events in the city.

She said the competition provides young people with an opportunity to develop their unique talents and skills, while also strengthening sports tourism, economic and social interaction, transforming the image of the city, and enhancing its competitiveness.
“Such competitions encourage us to further strengthen and develop youth-oriented infrastructure,” she said, adding that they also give young people an opportunity to cultivate a spirit of international competitiveness.
Mayor Adanech also encouraged the organizers to continue their efforts, saying, “Keep up the good work,” and extended her best wishes to all the competitors.
