U.S. Supports Ethiopiaโ€™s Peaceful Efforts to Gain Sea Access- General Anderson

Ethiopia and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military and security cooperation following talks between Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), and a delegation led by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander General Dagvin R. M. Anderson.

The discussions, held at ENDF Headquarters in Addis Ababa, focused on measures to promote peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

On the occasion, Field Marshal Berhanu highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States across multiple sectors, including military collaboration.

He emphasized Ethiopiaโ€™s key role in counterterrorism efforts, particularly in operations against Al-Shabaab.

The ENDF Chief of Staff also noted that Ethiopiaโ€™s pursuit of a sea port is driven by goals of peace and economic development, and reaffirmed that military relations with the United States โ€œwill continue to strengthen.โ€

General Anderson commended Ethiopiaโ€™s contribution to regional peace and security and underlined that the U.S. will continue to work with Ethiopia to counter terrorism.

He expressed support for Ethiopiaโ€™s peaceful efforts to gain sea access, noting that it would enhance the countryโ€™s role in maintaining regional stability.

General Anderson also met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed(PhD) at the Office of the Prime Minister, where discussions focused on regional security and avenues for further cooperation.
