House of Peoples’ Representatives Speaker Ahmed Shide said Addis Ababa’s urban development projects are serving as a model for other major cities, citing improvements in infrastructure, environmental management and public services.

The Speaker made the remarks during the inauguration and public opening of a major riverside development project extending from Kechene, via Ambassador and Irecha, to Bambis, as part of the Entoto-Peacock riverside development project.

In his message on the occasion, Speaker Ahmed Shide noted that the riverside and corridor development project had promoted green development, maintained the city’s cleanliness and sanitation, and improved infrastructure.

He explained that the project had significantly transformed the city’s appearance by making daily activities and life more convenient for residents. He added that it had demonstrated how coordinated efforts by the public, investors and government institutions could deliver better results.

Noting that the Medemer government had given considerable attention to urban development over the past eight years, the Speaker said extensive efforts had been made to transform cities into centers of growth, improved quality of life and economic activity.

He added that integrating corridor and riverside development with job creation and social protection was significantly accelerating urban development.

Speaker Ahmed Shide also stated that efforts to transform Addis Ababa, a city with a large population, into a more livable urban environment had yielded significant results.

He noted that substantial progress had been made in social development, including education, healthcare, school feeding programs and the provision of housing for low-income communities.

According to the Speaker, these initiatives had helped narrow income disparities among residents, promote equitable development and significantly improve the living standards of the community.
