Among the massive projects built in Addis Ababa, the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center stands out for its unique and profound significance. It is a transformative, enduring initiative that has changed the lives of women who had been living in difficult and challenging circumstances, while providing many with a renewed sense of hope and dignity.
The center is making a significant contribution by helping women who had previously been deprived of attention and who had been living in difficult conditions on the streets. By providing them with care, shelter, and support, the center is helping them break away from traumatic circumstances, transform their lives, earn an income, and become self-reliant.
Located in the Akaki-Kality Sub-City of Addis Ababa, the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center was built through the commitment and vision of the city administration. The center has the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 women at a time and up to 10,000 women annually.
This massive project, which has brought hope and a sense of fulfillment to many, is helping women who had been living in difficult circumstances overcome the multifaceted challenges they faced and improve their livelihoods. It provides psychological support and healthcare services, while also equipping beneficiaries with comprehensive skills in beauty, fashion and textiles, food preparation, and 18 other vocational fields, enabling them to directly enter the workforce.
Since its establishment, the center has trained a total of 3,258 women and helped them join the world of work, enabling them to lead better lives and become role models for others.
The Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center is living proof that the massive projects being implemented by the Addis Ababa City Administration are fundamentally centered on improving people’s lives, wiping away the tears of many, and leaving a lasting mark on history.
