In a message shared on her official social media page, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie stated that residents of Addis Ababa turned out in large numbers at polling stations across the city, arriving well before voting centers opened and patiently lining up to cast their ballots.
The Mayor announced that voting is now officially underway, describing the strong public turnout as a clear demonstration of citizens’ commitment to participating in the democratic process.
She noted that despite coordinated media campaigns and narratives from both domestic and international outlets, the public has shown a firm determination to exercise its democratic rights and take part in the election.
“From the early hours of the morning, residents came out in large numbers, queued at polling stations, and are now actively casting their ballots,” the Mayor stated.

Mayor Adanech emphasized that citizens are exercising their democratic right to vote and playing a direct role in shaping the city’s and the nation’s political, economic, and social future.
She further noted that the growing culture of democratic participation is expected to strengthen national stability, reinforce democratic institutions, and serve as a valuable example for other countries seeking to deepen civic engagement and democratic governance.
