Speaking at the event, Addis Ababa Tourism Commissioner Hunde Kebede said that the “Bike in Addis” initiative, which is held every month across different parts of the city, has now reached its 8th edition.
The Commissioner noted that the event attracted a large number of cycling enthusiasts, families, and foreign tourists, reflecting its growing popularity and significance as both a recreational and community-centered activity.
The Addis Ababa tourism commissioner also highlighted that the corridor development projects underway across the capital have created a more favorable and accessible environment for such events, helping to expand opportunities for cycling and other outdoor activities.
Hunde further explained that the festival is playing an important role in fostering healthy and productive citizens while also strengthening social cohesion and encouraging greater public engagement.
In addition, he emphasized that the initiative is designed to boost sports tourism and promote cycling as an alternative mode of transportation in Addis Ababa, in line with the city’s broader vision for sustainable urban development. Against the backdrop of the current global situation, the Commissioner also called on residents to embrace a smoke-free transportation culture that supports fuel conservation and environmental responsibility.
The commissioner encouraged the public to make greater use of bicycles, scooters, and other non-motorized means of transport as smart, practical, and eco-friendly alternatives.
The “Bike in Addis” monthly cycling festival, jointly organized by the Addis Ababa Tourism Commission, the Addis Ababa Transport Bureau, and Nef Events and Communication, was successfully held in Addis Ababa, drawing strong participation and renewed attention to sustainable urban mobility.
