Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its unwavering efforts to ensure that Africa secures the representation it rightfully deserves on the global stage, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos (PhD), has said.

The foreign minister made the remarks during the ongoing 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council meeting in Addis Ababa.

Gedion described the Executive Council as a vital platform where African countries engage in meaningful discussions on shared priorities, coordinate common positions, and advance the continent’s collective interests on key regional and global issues.

Reflecting on the rapidly evolving global landscape, he stressed that Africa must adopt a forward-looking approach rooted in mutual respect, stronger cooperation, and shared prosperity among its member states.

The minister underscored the need for African countries to work in unity to secure greater representation and influence in global decision-making. He noted that this requires strategic planning, deeper regional collaboration, and enhanced economic self-reliance.

Gedion also reaffirmed that Africa’s development must be led by Africans, emphasizing that the continent’s vast natural and human resources should be harnessed to drive sustainable development, economic transformation, and shared prosperity across Africa.
