Ambassador Jemal Beker(PhD) Abdula has officially presented his Letter of Credence to Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), designating him as the Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the agency.
During the ceremony, Jemal Beker conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Gedion Timotheos(PhD), Minister of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, to the Director-General. The Ambassador reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to the global energy transition, highlighting that more than 90% of Ethiopia’s energy is derived from renewable sources, positioning the nation as a renewable energy hub for Africa.
The Ambassador elaborated on the significant contributions of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), alongside wind, solar, and geothermal projects, toward regional energy security and climate resilience. Jemal noted that Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative and its transition to a low-carbon economy serve as a blueprint for sustainable development across the African continent.

Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, warmly welcomed the Ambassador’s appointment and commended Ethiopia’s exemplary leadership in sustainable development.
The Director-General further praised Ethiopia’s selection to host the 32nd UN Climate Change Conference (COP32), stating that this milestone reflects the country’s profound commitment to the international climate agenda.
The Director-General reaffirmed IRENA’s dedication to providing technical support for Ethiopia’s priority energy projects and mobilizing investment finance to realize them.
