Ethiopia’s commitment to environmental conservation continues to inspire collective action and earn international recognition.
Members of the diplomatic community joined senior Ethiopian government officials in a tree-planting campaign at Entoto Park in Addis Ababa, reaffirming their support for Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative. The nationwide program has become a flagship effort to restore degraded landscapes, conserve biodiversity, combat climate change, and promote sustainable development. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority.
Speaking at the program, Kumera Wakjira, Head of the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, said investing in nature is an investment in a greener, healthier, and more resilient future.

He emphasized that every tree planted today leaves a lasting legacy by restoring ecosystems, strengthening biodiversity, and creating a better environment for future generations.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Ambassador Hadera Abera said the Green Legacy Initiative demonstrates Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to environmental restoration and climate action. He noted that the country’s sustained efforts in environmental protection have contributed to its selection to host COP32.

The State Minister also called for stronger international cooperation in addressing global environmental challenges and expressed Ethiopia’s sincere appreciation to the diplomatic community for its continued participation and support of the Green Legacy Initiative.
Alula Pankhurst(PhD) of the Ethiopian Heritage Authority stressed that environmental conservation is a national priority backed by strong government commitment and sustained public participation.

He said the Green Legacy Initiative has evolved into a powerful platform for restoring ecosystems, protecting indigenous plant species, and advancing sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations.
The participation of the diplomatic community reflects growing international recognition of Ethiopia’s environmental leadership and highlights the importance of global partnerships in building a greener and more climate-resilient future.
