Deputy Chief Administrator and Urban Sector Coordinator of the Amhara Regional State, Ahmedin Mohammed (PhD), said Efforts are currently underway to inscribe the Agew Horse Culture on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Speaking at the final validation and consultation forum held in Bahir Dar, Ahmedin stated that extensive preparatory work has been completed, with discussions now focused on the final nomination document required for UNESCO registration.

The Deputy Administrator noted that the Amhara Region is actively working to develop and sustainably utilize its rich yet untapped tourism resources. As part of this effort, the federal government continues the restoration of major heritage sites, including the Fasil Castles in Gondar and the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, while also developing new tourist destinations such as Gorgora, demonstrating a strong commitment to strengthening the tourism sector.
Ahmedin further explained that, in close collaboration with the Ethiopian Heritage Authority, a range of activities have been undertaken to advance the inscription of the Agew Horse Culture as a globally recognized heritage element.

Ahmedin emphasized that the regional government will continue to provide strong support and follow-up throughout the registration process and called on all relevant stakeholders to fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding and promoting the heritage.
The Agew Horse Culture is set to celebrate its 86th anniversary on January 31, 2025 (Tir 23, 2018 E.C.), marking a significant milestone in its rich cultural history.
