The FDRE Ministry of Defense has described the Ethiopian people as โa generation that makes history while keeping pace with the times,โ emphasizing national unity, the countryโs historical legacy, and the role of the armed forces in safeguarding Ethiopiaโs sovereignty and national interests.
In a statement published on its official social media account, the Ministry said, โWe are a peaceful people who have learned from yesterday and are determined to shape our destiny and write the history of tomorrow. We are the children of heroic ancestors and the inheritors of the victory of Adwa. Yet, we are not merely heirs to that victory; we are also a strong people who built the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a second Adwa in its own right, through our own capabilities and resources.โ
The statement further noted that, just as the countryโs rivers contributed to the realization of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Ethiopian people possess the collective strength to overcome national challenges when united around a common purpose. It added that unity becomes particularly important when the countryโs security is threatened, its dignity is challenged, or its national interests are at stake. According to the Ministry, those who underestimate this collective strength fail to recognize the resilience of the Ethiopian people.

The Ministry identified the people as the principal source of strength for the armed forces, describing them as the foundation of national unity, resilience, and military capability. It characterized the Ethiopian military as a national institution that reflects the countryโs diversity while bringing its members together under a common uniform, objective, and national mission. The statement also affirmed that the armed forces are better prepared to protect the countryโs sovereignty and national dignity.
According to the Ministry, Ethiopia has developed a military force that keeps pace with changing times and continues to strengthen its professional competence, patriotism, discipline, leadership, and technological capabilities.

The statement emphasized that the armyโs strength is closely linked to its relationship with the public and that its national responsibility includes protecting the peace and security necessary for the countryโs development. It described the armed forces as a reliable defender of Ethiopia, committed to fulfilling their national duties, even at the cost of their lives.
The Ministry also highlighted the emergence of a generation determined to defend the country against external aggression, resist attempts to undermine national unity, and remain vigilant against conspiracies intended to weaken Ethiopia.
It stated, โAlthough forces seeking to obstruct our nation’s hopes and deprive our people of development and peace through outdated conspiracies, deceit, betrayal, and collaboration with hostile interests have not disappeared, they have failed to understand one essential truth: we Ethiopians come together when challenges arise, refuse to stand idle when our country is tested, and stand united in defense of our shared interests and peace. They have failed to recognize that exploiting our internal differences will not easily break our unity.โ

The Ministry described national unity as a continuing source of strength for Ethiopia, encouragement for its friends, and a deterrent to those seeking to harm the country. It called for sustained solidarity and collective commitment to the nationโs future, stating that unity would help guide Ethiopia toward a better tomorrow.
The statement concluded with a warning that those who conspire against Ethiopia or act to harm the nation would ultimately face disgrace.
