The international cycling race, featuring riders from across the globe, will be held in Addis Ababa today.
Recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the event marks the first time the internationally acclaimed competition of its kind is being staged on African soil. The race will take place around the Adwa Victory Memorial.
Cyclists from 24 European and 10 African countries are expected to participate, alongside Ethiopian athletes representing the host nation.

Ethiopia becomes the second stop on the annual international urban mountain bike calendar after Barcelona.
Elite men’s and women’s riders will compete in time trials, semi-finals, and finals.
The race will be broadcast live on international television Channels and is expected to reach an audience of more than 20 million viewers worldwide.
Ahead of the main competition, an open race was held yesterday, allowing Ethiopian cyclists to take part. Amateur races, children’s competitions, and time trial events were also organized.

According to the Ethiopian Cycling Federation, the event is expected to provide significant benefits for Ethiopia’s sports sector by promoting the country internationally and showcasing its ability to host world-class competitions.
The federation added that the race offers Ethiopian cyclists an opportunity to compete against international athletes on home soil, helping strengthen their exposure and experience at a higher level of competition.
The event is also expected to contribute to the growth of sports tourism in Ethiopia, while reinforcing Addis Ababa’s position as an emerging destination for major international sporting events.
It is worth noting that the inaugural Addis Ababa Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour event, was recently held in the capital.
