The 1,501st anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), known as Mawlid, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Grand Anwar Mosque in Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the celebration, Sheikh Abdulkerim Bedredin, Vice President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, said this year’s Mawlid celebration has a special significance as it comes in the aftermath of Ethiopia’s national dialogue, which concluded after passing through several stages and reaching a common understanding through collective consultation.

Recalling the historic occasion when Prophet Muhammad recognized the greatness and hospitality of Abyssinia, Sheikh Abdulkerim urged the Muslim community to stand firmly for lasting peace and unity in Ethiopia.
He further emphasized that the observance of Mawlid should not be limited to a one-day religious ceremony. Rather, he said, it should be reflected throughout the year by putting the Prophet’s Sunnah and good teachings into practice, caring for and supporting those in need.
